When the Dutch decided to close off the ZuiderZee to control flooding, many small fishing towns on the small saltwater sea became extict overnight... including Enkhuizen.
Enkhuizen, an important harbor-town of the VOC, was one of the most prosperous cities in the Netherlands in the 17th century with a rich culture in fishing and trade.
The Zuiderzeemuseum is one of the most remarkable museums which includes an outdoor area with its historic houses, shops and workshops.
This was one of our FAVORITE places to explore in the Netherlands.
