October 2020 - Flevoland

Flevoland is the 12th and youngest province of the Netherlands, and was established by the country of the Netherlands through a system a man-made system of dams and dikes to reclame the land.

After two catastrophic seawall collapses along the Netherlands’ coastline in 1287 and 1421 causing 50,000 people and 10,000 people, respectively, the Netherlands decided to close off the Zuiderzee for better flood control.

To justify the investment, much of the reclaimed land is leased as agricultural farmland.

Aside from walking through through the peaceful countryside, our favorite activity was the "Natuurpark Lelystad", which is a interesting cross between a zoo and a large park.
